How Do I Setup A Media Center In Vista?
One of the problems that people have most of the time with Vista is with an incorrect setting. Microsoft was trying to make Vista more secure and user friendly. Unfortunately they made it more difficult to understand. I am an old XP user dealing with Vista and I know your pain. One of the settings that can be over seen or not seen at all is the public and private setting. This should be set to private.
The network you connect to wirelessly should be set to private in order to be able to setup a media center.
This is the pitfall to setting up the PS3 or Xbox 360 with vista. This setting alone keeps many people from configuring windows media server for the PS3 and Xbox 360.
Follow up:

In order to change this setting, if your network is not already private, click on customize within the Vista Network Settings.

Now change your network setting to private.

Now that that is out of the way we need to open up Windows Media Player. Once it is open click library then click media sharing.
A pop-up window will appear. Make sure the 'Share My Media' Checkbox is checked and click on 'OK' to continue.

For the Media Sharing setting for 'Share music, pictures, and video on your network', click on the 'Setting' option to configure the details about which devies (PS3, Xbox 360, PC) will be able to share the media.

From there on I got my media center to work for my Playstation 3. I hope this step by step tutorial for setting up a media center worked for you. Comment any questions you have.
If you still have issues check to see if you have another firewall running and make sure that it has ports that are open for Windows Media Center.
