How do I download youtube videos?

Ever wondered how to download a Youtube video? Youtube videos are in a video format called flash video. This is a format not very universal in the world of videos but can be if you know what hoops to jump through. Youtube naturally does not have a download button because they want you to go to their website to view videos. Which is perfectly reasonable.

There are a few ways to download youtube videos. One way is to use Mozilla Firefox internet browser and attach an addon progam to it called Video DownloadHelper 3.5.1. Or you can download the addon called Fast Video Download 1.6.1. Either way you can download the video. The first addon also allows you to convert the video which you will need to do anyways if you are going to edit the video with some video editing program like Sony Vegas because by default many programs do not support flash videos.
These are great ways to download Youtube videos but what if you do not use Firefox. Maybe you use Google Chrome or Internet Explorer. There are websites out there that allow you to download Youtube videos just by copying the link to the video and pasting it in the website input form. Click download and you have the video!
TechCrunch.com seems to offer one of the best Youtube video downloading interfaces. It can be found by following this link: http://www.techcrunch.com/get-youtube-movie/
The video will be downloaded but you may need to rename the file so that it contains .flv at the end so that your computer will identify it as a video file. If your computer does not show file type extensions you should turn it on by going into your folder options in windows. One of the most popular programs that people like to use to play all kinds of video formats is VLC. You can download VLC for Linux, Mac, or PC here.
Now you know how to download videos from Youtube. So you if you get bored and do not have the Internet you can show your friends and family your favorite Youtube videos all from your hard drive.

I) THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURE IS FOR WINDOW's XP users as I happen to be one. I have no idea whether the following procedure would work on a VISTA or others. PLEASE, if it works on other operating systems or browsers, DO take some time to ADD THE INFO HERE TO HELP PEOPLE.
FIRST OF ALL, 'DELETE' YOUR TEMPORARY FILES BY GOING TO 'Tools' tab on your internet explorer> Internet Options...>'General' tab> and press 'Delete Files' button!
OPEN the youtube video page that you want to download. let the video play fully and then do the following-
THE below PROCEDURE SHOWS HOW TO ACCESS THE 'Temporary Internet Files' folder. You can also access the folder by putting the given name of the folder in 'SEARCH' option of WINDOWS.
1) click on 'TOOLS' tab on your windows explorer and from the drop down menu, click on 'INTERNET OPTIONS'.
2) in this, there's a 'GENERAL' tab & you'll find 'Temporary Internet files' in it.
3) Click on 'SETTINGS' and then a small box with 'settings' title would appear.
4) In this you would find 'Temporary Internet files folder' and under it you have to click the button 'View Files'.
5) This opens the folder we have to work on. Its called 'Temporary Internet Files'.
6) RIght click in the folder with your mouse and choose 'Arrange Icons By' and click 'Size' from the appearing choice.
7) all the files of different formats are stored here and the largest in SIZE would be your YOUTUBE video in '.FLV' format.
8) here, youtube files show up in names and ready to play with 'FLV' formats or Mostly with a title like 'get_video?origin=mia-v245.mia.youtube.com&vid......' and WITHOUT A FORMAT or any associated icon.
9) copy such large youtube files to any designated folder(like My Documents) and Rename them and in case it is format less unassociated plane file, add a '.FLV' to it as that is its format and it will help you to play in its flv player.
