How do I put a video file on a playable DVD?
There are some nice programs to do be able to take a video file on your hard drive and put it on a DVD that is playable on a DVD player. Many people will use several programs to do this but it can take a long time. I use Sony Vegas to edit my family videos and then save them as an mpg file. After the movie is rendered and I now have a movie file I can use Nero to make a DVD that I can play on anyone's DVD player.

DVD Flick is a free program that allows you to do this. It is available for Windows 2000 Professional, all versions of Windows XP or all versions of Windows Vista. You can download the program here: http://www.dvdflick.net/download.php
1 - Once you have downloaded the program, open it up and click Project settings. This program has a very userfriendly interface. If you do not understand a part of the program your can click the question mark buttons.

2 - When you are done adjusting your settings click accept and then you will be brought to a window where you can drag and drop video files to be burnt onto a DVD.

There are several other options you can choose from. Subtitles can be added and chapters can be set.
3 - Now click on Menu Settings. This is where you can add a menu to your DVD video if you like. You can choose just about any picture you want of the background and find the layout that is best for you by changing text colors. When you are done creating your menu click Accept.

4 - When you have everything setup the way you want it you can now click Create DVD. Just insert a blank DVD and wait for the DVD to burn. However, the wait isn't too bad because the programmers added a little feature to keep you entertained. Click the Entertain Me button to play a Tetris game while the DVD is being made. There is an option to speed up the process. However, this will slow down other programs on the computer you are using.

5 - Once the DVD is done, go ahead and try it out in your DVD player and share the video with friends and family. Show off your DVD skills and offer to make some DVDs for people.
