Why do some programs not work on Windows Vista?

by Jay Email

Windows Vista is still a young operating system as of now and does not support some programs. Some people believe it is because of marketing. That companies that have older programs want their customers to move over to the newer versions. However others say that there is incompatibilities with the architecture of the software. Sometimes Vista has to change its clear style for older computer programs to run.

Follow up:

Run the program in compatibility mode for Windows XP

I once had an old program that I wanted to be able to run on Windows Vista but wouldn't. To fix this I right clicked the program shortcut and went to properties. Click on program Compatibility tab. You will see a check box and a drop down box that will allow you to run the program in compatibility mode for another operating system. I fixed my problem by running it in Windows XP SP2.

The other method is to look for different versions of the program that will work on Windows Vista or just go back to Windows XP. This problem of compatibility of computer software in Vista is the reason many people will not move from XP to Vista. Windows XP still sells well and is a great operating system in terms of performance but may not be able to play newer games in good detail because of the different architecture.

If I were to choose between Vista and XP I would choose XP because I would only use Vista because of its nice design. Windows XP can be changed to look like Vista so I do not make that transition if I do not have to. I currently use Vista on my laptop only because I do not want to take the time to install Windows XP and it is sometimes hard to get SATA drives to install Windows XP.
